Welcome First Day Of Fall - Sharing the Shop Entrance

The first day of fall, where has the summer gone to? We've been in the upper 90's all week, hard to believe fall is here and yes those cold days of winter not far behind. I love Fall, all of the colors, the crunching of the leaves under feet, hot coffee on the front porch wrapped with a throw around my shoulders, watching the squirrels gather their wares for the winter months. It's a slower time of year, one where you can sit and reflect before the rush of the winter months hit us in the face.

Boston Fern Mania

Many many thanks for all of your positive comments on my Carpet Choices and a Few Hiccups. I'm still putting the house back together and will show that update soon. There is not enough hours in the day to mark off all of the things on the to-do list. Could it be I keep adding things to the list instead of marking them off?

Carpet Choices and a Few Hiccups

Preparing a home for new flooring installation is a daunting task. I worked long days in the shop and long hours in the evening for 2 weeks preparing my home for the folks from Home Depot to come install my new flooring. You can view the Chaos I lived in HERE. It felt as though I was moving, only without all of the marked boxes. This is a long post, full of pictures and story, please grab your drink of choice for the tale of carpet choices and a few hiccups.

Wagon Wheel Beauty

As I reflect each morning trying to line out the days activities it becomes apparent to me there are just not enough hours in the day. Am I trying to get too much done in a short span of time? Yes, of course I am.

Living in Chaos

If you read my last post I shared with you I was hoping to have new flooring put down in the house. I truly didn't believe it would happen as quickly as it did. After listening to many advertisements on the radio about

The Summer Master Bedroom

I know it's been quite awhile since I've put a post together. I've been staying busy trying to out run all the quiet around here. I'll have several updates to share with all of you, from taking a short trip out East to all of the changes around my home.

I Loved Her So Much

This past week has been a week of sorrow, feeling lost, lonely another time to mourn. My little Miss Scooter has been failing for the last little bit. I would take her to the vet for a few more meds to buy her some time. I'm wondering was it selfish of me? Did I prolong the inevitable? I didn't want to give up on her, I didn't want to give her up.

Pops of Spring On The Shop Patio

After I open the shop each morning I take a walk around the patio with a cup of coffee, the view this time of year is so warm and welcoming the pops of color bright and cheery.

Brighter Lighter Sun Porch

The sun porch is one of my favorite rooms in my home, it's the first room you see when you come in the back door. A few years back I painted the walls this delicious shade of Apple Green, as the commercial said, "it's come a long way baby!" You can view the nasty "yellow" colored unpainted walls HERE, these before pictures are what prompted the "whole" change, goodness I'm glad I did. From those pictures you can view HERE the reveal of the walls after they were painted. Just a slight change don't you think?

New Chairs For the Kitchen

I've searched for quite some time for the perfect counter stools for the new island. I've ordered a couple of times only to be disappointed once they came. The color was off or the quality wasn't what I felt it should be.

Changes in the Office

I have a couple of girlfriends that come by for regular visits, they have been my strength the last 3 years. We're constantly visiting about everything, mostly decorating.
While one of them was here last week she noticed I had sold a piece of furniture that had been in the office for almost 16 years. It was time for it to go after the couple picked it up there was a definite bare spot.
 I moved the over sized

And... Another Project Is Marked Off the Books

It's been another wild and crazy week around here. I work better under pressure wouldn't have it any other way. Mother Nature is cooperating with us this weekend with promises of Spring like temperatures, along with more wind. It could be so much worse, after 13 days of clouds and rain I'm more than ready for sunshine bring on the wind.

A couple of weeks ago I was visiting with a friend talking construction as we often do. During the conversation my cabinet over the desk was brought up and how I disliked the cross bar design. It felt too heavy. just not the traditional look I was going for.

The New Wall Reveal

I truly thought I could get this posted before now. Between the shop open house and clients in the office, I have been snowed under. None the less, let's move on with my reveal, I"m so anxious to share with all of you.

The half wall leading out of the master bedroom into the living area has bothered me for years. Making a random comment to my contractor and daughter one day got my wheels turning, not that they ever slow down much. One of my contractor's favorite sayings is "anything can be done". I mulled over in my head what I wanted, I put pen to paper and did some figuring, got on line did some research, next stop the lumber yard to price and evaluate ship time. Cause you all know once we get something into our heads we're anxious to move forward.

Taking Down Another Wall

It's been an eventful last few weeks and months around here. Not only was I busy cleaning up outside I was doing more work on the inside. Working on my home as been great therapy for me. Trying to adjust from a "we" to a "me" as taken its toll. I stay to myself with the dog and don't venture out. For the most part, the only outside contact I have are with my customers in the shop. Learning it's OK to laugh and have a good time as been a difficult journey for me. It's hard to believe on February 12th Mr. P has been gone 3 years. Working on projects has been my saving grace.

While sitting in the living area one evening I decided it was time for the half wall to come down. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to happen, I just knew I wanted it gone. It felt like an albatross. The half wall was great for furniture placement, great for placing all sorts of accessories in front of it. It was time to edit and rethink my decorating.
The oak shelf was great for displaying

Pocket Door Installation Reveal

It feels like forever that I promised you the reveal of the pocket door installation. If you would like to see a recap of where I started you can go HERE. It has been really crazy around here. My busy season has started in the office, I'm trying to prepare for a Spring Open House for the shop then mother nature decided to hit us with quite a storm. I think, and I say that a little on the light side I might be coming up for air.

The room is still not a 100% like I would like for it to be, if I wait until it is I might not ever be able to share the reveal, I'm sure you all know how that story goes.
This is the view looking into the "small" room from the laundry room. You can see just to the left of the trim a small area of about an 1' or so there seems to be extra wood, that my friends is just an edge of the pocket door.

The Storms Aftermath

Monday was so windy you could barely walk out the door, the temperatures climbed throughout the day.
Late afternoon brought storm warnings for our area, turning into a tornado watch. I must admit I get a little spooked with storms. As I watched a little T.V. and visited on the phone with a friend her weather alert kept going off. She asked me if I had seen the lightning. I replied, "no". We felt it best to get off the phone. I took a walk out to the garage as I was standing out there the doors started rattling like I've never heard before. Then the sound was overhead, the sound of a freight train, I moved instantly inside afraid it was going to take the tree just outside the garage and push it inside and hit my truck. Then the lights go out.

That Joanna Gaines Moment

I know I promised to share the reveal of the pocket door installation, there is one small detail left to attend to and pictures to take. The wheels on this bus goes round and round a tad slower especially this time of year. Stick with me friends the reveal will be coming soon.
Over the last few years I've shared the shop many times, I so appreciate all of you stopping by to say hello. Last Summer while working I realized the shop was due for a mini update. Fixer Upper one of the most watched shows on television, is always a great source of inspiration. After binge watching one weekend I knew what the shop needed to bring it up to date. The faux brick wall needed to go lighter and brighter it screamed PAINT ME! Yes folks the sound was loud and strong. Who am I not to listen.

Paint Changes Everything

I thought I would be ready to share an update to the pocket door installation. There was a small cliche to a few finishing touches. I'm hoping to share that the end of the week or the first part of next week. Thanks to all that came by and voiced your opinions.

In the meantime, you know I don't sit still. I spend a lot of time in my office especially this time of the year. While a friend was visiting the other day my eyes kept going back to the black cabinet. It was missing something, needed something. It finally dawned on me what it had been lacking all of these years.

First Project of 2017 Pocket Door Installation Part 1

I was so excited to begin my first project of 2017, actually it began on Christmas Day of 2016. A project I'd been yearning to do for quite sometime.
As you enter my home off the sun porch you walk directly into the laundry room. Off the laundry room is a postage stamp size powder room. The door was always open or shut nothing in between.

2016 in Review

A new year brings new beginnings. I feel as though I've been working on new beginnings for a while now. Loosing someone has a way of doing that. About the time you think you have it all together a memory, a song, a card, a small note with his hand writing suddenly appears. You fall off your plateau of calm into a crying phase.
