Merry Christmas

I always enjoy putting up the tree each year. It seems to be the jumping off point for all of the Christmas decor to come.
A few throws and Santa himself warm up the room.

As you're looking in from the library the room seems to take on a glow of it's own.
A blue and white bowl filled with greenery and antlers for the entry table.
The shelf below holds a basket of logs and greenery for the deer to nestle in.
The small black table holds a blue and white bowl with berries and iced jingle bells.

A new glassed tray holds a vintage inspired Santa.
All lite up at night.
I'm wishing you and yours
the Happiest of Holidays.
May the true meaning of
Christmas touch your hearts
now and
throughout the year.

Christmas in the Sun Porch

The sun porch is the first room you enter when you come to my back door. It's a room that puts a smile on your face and a song in your heart. The room has evolved over the past 19 years. I painted the walls a few years back this fabulous shade of green and haven't looked back. Please, come on in and I'll show you around.

It's a Plaid Kind of Christmas Kitchen

Decorating the kitchen for the holidays seems to always begin with the hutch. I never tire of putting a bit of holiday cheer on its shelves.

I thought I was finished with decorating in the library until I ran across these gorgeous throws.

Christmas Touches in the Laundry Room

For the last couple of days, we've been experiencing the full force of winter in our area. We've had lots of ice and a wee bit of snow and wind. The temperature this a.m. was a -6 degrees. It is definitely winter in our area. I know it's extremely cold, but it sure makes it feel like Christmas is a few days away.
I added wee touches of Christmas in the laundry room this year. This bottle cap truck decoration seemed perfect for the laundry room. Topped off with a half bow of plaid ribbon only added to its cuteness.

Dressing Up the Master Bedroom for Christmas

You know that moment when you decide you're not going to take a lot of Christmas out and before you know it, the house is happy and full of Christmas? That's exactly what happened to me.
My game plan changed

Christmas in the Library

Decorating for the holidays is in full swing for many us. I finally started pulling mine out after Thanksgiving. My plan was to start a new tradition and begin before Thanksgiving, this year mishaps of one thing or another prevented that from happening. Is someone trying to tell me something?
I didn't pull out a lot this year, trying to keep things more on the simple side; the library formerly known as the dining room got a few touches.

Holiday Open House and a Tribute To Pat

It's been quite a while since I've done a post. There have been way too many things getting the way. I've been busy with this and that getting loads of things done that had gone by the way side for various reasons.

The summer has flown by and we're now knee deep into the holidays quickly approaching. I've been busy getting the shop ready for the festivities to begin this weekend. I'm sharing a few of the highlights as to what my quests will see this year in the shop.

In front of the faux fireplace I placed 2 chairs and a rooster cabinet. The top is loaded down with various things for your home.

Summer on the Shop Patio

The patio outside the shop is one of my favorite outdoor spaces to decorate. I try to change it up weekly adding a piece or two, taking away a few. You know my favorite go to color is blue and white, no surprise there, not to be redundant it just makes my heart sing. Blue is one of those colors that seems to go with everything. While blowing off the patio, my mind

Cleaning Things Up Around Here

With the remodel of the inside on hold for the summer, there's been a lot of work going on around here on the outside. Many of us have growing lists of things to do to our homes, I've had a few on my list for quite a while, I decided this was the year was to take action on a few of those projects.

Mother Nature has put a stop stick on a few of those with all the rain, today is gorgeous and promises to be for the next few days, I'll be hitting the yard each evening after closing the shop to mark a few of those things off the list.

Memorial Weekend Centerpiece

Are you decorating for the holiday weekend? I don't decorate heavily but I do enjoy coming up with new vessels to use for centerpieces. A recent trip to Home Goods with a girl friend, proved not only to be fun, loads of treasures were found.

This beautiful white compote was begging me to bring it home. Ironically, it matches a large platter I purchased a few years back. Winner, winner!

Easter in the Breakfast Room

In between the shop, tax office and the Reno I brought out a few Easter items. I've had this darling bunny planter for a few years now, He's just the happiest guy to look at daily.

The Breakfast Room Reveal

When putting a room together there are a few questions you need to ask yourself. Which direction do I want to take the room. What feeling do you want the room to throw off? What color do I want to predominately be the vocal point? Do I want to make it to have a causal feel? Are do I want it to be more on the fancy side?

These are all

Choosing a Range For The Kitchen

It's been said I live in a bubble. They mean it kindly I suppose, living in a bubble isn't so bad. Not a lot effects you inside a bubble. On the other hand when it comes to updating things around your home you're lost, confused and shocked at the what the outside world has revolved into.

I Pulled A Few of the Bunnies Out

I'm in a bit of a hiatus with the Reno, not because I want to be. The counter top is ordered and due in fingers crossed next week. The new range came due to be installed after the counter top is installed. The flooring is causing more issues than I can say. I've called him twice a third time is coming up. I just simply need a yes or no can you come up with a solution that will work or not? These people that skirt around a direct answer drive me a little crazy. I'll share the range process in an up coming post.

Choosing a Rug for the Kitchen

Even before the Reno began I knew I wanted to change out the rug underneath the kitchen table. Made of wool it has worn outstandingly well. The plan all along is to go lighter and brighter. I've had earth tones with touches of blue for a long time. It was time to kick things into the 21st century. The plan was to sale this rug, mission accomplished after a couple of days it was sold and picked up.

The Kitchen Island Reno Continues

I know it's been a while since I last shared a post of the Reno work going on around my home. It's been a wild and busy time around here. So much as been going on and now a small stand still. Miss Scooter has been over seeing each and every move. I'm not sure she's pleased with all of the activity, as long as she's by my side she's one happy pup.

~ Happy Valentine's Day ~

Hello all, Wishing you a loved filled day, I'm sharing a repeat of a tablescape from the archives. It's always fun to look back can be good for the soul. I had no idea this went back as far as 2009. Thank goodness for new style cameras and the internet to bring these memories close to the heart. Thanks for stopping by I hope you enjoy viewing a blast from the past. Oh my how the dining room has changed, up dates coming soon with all of the rehab.

With all the painting I've been doing I haven't had a chance to play with my dishes in "forever", let alone think about them. I wanted to share the tablescape I did for Valentine's Day in 2009. Originally I didn't have the water mark on my photos, not sure why I put the wrong year, could it be I have paint fumes in my head? For those new to the blog I hope you enjoy the setting for two, for my new friends in England part of this is for you.

Hug someone today and tell them you love them, for yesterday is gone, today is a gift.
Happy Valentine's Day!

You Should Be Here

Two years ago today you went away
It was so hard that day to say good by
I know you're in a better place
Is it selfish of me to still want you here?
I know you're in a better place.

You should Be Here.
Love and miss you every day.

~ Brown and White Toile Table ~

It's another dreary day here today, with the past few posts being all about the reno going on I thought I would give that subject a bit of a break  It is oh so close for phase one of the reno to be shared, not quite, there are still a couple of finishing touches I need to make before the reveal.

I decided

Finishing the Sheet Rock

It is officially winter around our neck of the woods, extreme cold temperatures and last night more snow and a bit of ice. Shoveling snow is not at the top of my bucket list, however last night and again this a.m. that little chore had to be done, as I type this post it looks like someone popped a feather pillow and light snow is once again coming down.

Covering Up The Skylights

Through out the process of the small reno Miss Scooter is not far behind, sometimes under foot more than she needs to be. My sweet Scooter will be 11 next month and has been through a lot these past couple of years, now the poor thing is almost completely deaf. I know it must be hard on her, equally as hard on me, I'm used to talking to her and her respond in some type of fashion. Now all I get is those beautiful brown eyes starring at me, I often wonder what in the world she's thinking about, she is without a doubt one of the best companions a gal could have.

It's Official! All the Pop Corn Ceilings Are Gone!

Looking back over the last couple of weeks it's hard to believe this is the way things looked around here. I know it looks pretty sad, and believe me when I tell you it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. You know the old saying it gets worse before it gets better. All 10 rooms of popcorn ceilings are officially gone! Yippee Skippy!!!!

Remodel Continues, Progress Is Being Made

It's hard to believe I began my adventure a year ago this week, the adventure of scrapping popcorn off ceilings. It's come along way around here, even with taking the summer months off from the task I'm quite proud of where things stand today.

The scrapping of ceilings is still a work in progress, in fact it's progressing quickly. This is a short hallway that leads to the guest bedroom. Crown molding was attached properly, nail holes were filled (I'm becoming quite adapt at filling the holes quickly and accurately) and a coat of polyurethane was applied. The chandelier was raised almost 4 chain links to make this part of the ceiling appear taller. I've become this person who doesn't really like things hanging over her head.
