Master Bedroom Make Over Reveal

When it came to making over the Master Bedroom I had a couple of goals in mind. To go lighter and brighter, and to make it a tad more feminine. The previous room was black and gold, I've lived in a world of dark for a while and had to have brightness. I didn't have a time line there was no hurry. The first step to the makeover was to scrap the popcorn off the ceilings. You can view and read all about that HERE.
 The actual makeover began
last Spring when I ran across the blue and white comforter made by Ralph Lauren. The blue and white spoke to my heart and I began building around it. It came together slowly, finding the right pieces was far more important to me than rushing and purchasing items just for the soul purpose of filling up a room.
My love for blue and white is no secret, however I didn't want just a sea of blue, I knew it would need some lighter touches to keep it from becoming a complete bore. The first drapes I chose were a filmy white sheer, after living with them for a bit, they seem to cold and stark, I needed something with a bit of texture. I ran across these beautiful creamy white and taupe drapes, I was drawn to them immediately knowing they would be the perfect dressing for the windows. A semi neutral drape was the perfect chose, making the changing of the bedding seasonally a little less tasking. I love the lamp but it needed an update as well. Shopping in Lowe's one day I ran across the beautiful linen shade. Changing your shades is an inexpensive way to update your current lamps.
Many of you have asked about this sweet chair. Shopping in TJ MAXX last spring the chair seemed to call my name. It was the perfect size for this corner. Since this post is a bit picture heavy I'll share some close up shots soon of the accessories through out the room.
The previous ceiling fan had hung in the room for almost 17 years, once the ceilings were complete I realized the style and coloring of the fan were all wrong for the look I was going for. I purchased a fan that sits flush to the ceiling with a silver finish. A flush mount ceiling fan doesn't feel as though you have a weight hanging over you, your ceiling heights don't seem to push towards the floor as much. I'm lucky I have 8' ceilings, I certainly didn't want the ceiling height to feel lower. Speaking of ceilings, aren't they just the bomb? So clean and fresh looking. I chose a smooth finish instead of knock down. After all the years of the popcorn I craved a clean smooth look.
The bedding and pillows were bought in stages over the course of the last little bit. The dark blue cover was purchased from Penney's and is by Liz Claiborne. The color was just what I had in mind to add a bit of depth to the lighter blue and white comforter. Adding a white coverlet will take it from a Winter/Fall look to a Spring/Summer look very quickly.
I've had quite the addiction to pillows for a long time, and haven't had the opportunity to enjoy them. I've had a ball shopping for different patterns and textures for this room, they're placed strategically through out the room.
The bench was purchased about 10 years ago from a local furniture store. The original cover was more of a gold color. Perfect for the previous decor in the room, it needed updating for this rooms decor. Shopping at Nell Hill's a while back I fell in love with the light blue and white print, perfect makeover for the bench. I'll share that transformation soon.

I know many of you don't have T.V's in your master. We had one for years, so when I put the room back together I automatically put it back on the chest. Looking at the pictures now I'm not quite sure I like it there. I don't watch T.V. in this room so it really is taking up valuable decorating space. I'll live with it for now, but don't be surprised if I share and update with the T.V. gone. If you look to the right of the picture you can see a sneak peak into the master bathroom.
 "BEFORE"
 "AFTER"
And the I'm in love after shot of the Master Bedroom.
The room has taken on an entirely different feel. I'm still looking for the perfect lamp for the dresser not shown in these photos. If I waited for the perfect lamp to share the room in it's entirety it could possibly take forever. We all know a room is never done, they're ever changing. I'm confident it will come along at the perfect time. Once "all" of the ceilings are complete then I'll start looking for new flooring. I'm a believer that all good things comes to those that wait, and I have the patience of Job.
I've had a ball enjoying the process of everything from scrapping popcorn, filling nail holes, to painting the ceilings and the walls. The process went smoothly with no hiccups. I'm anxious to share the master bath with you, I hope you continue to follow my adventure of redoing the house.
