Finishing the Sheet Rock

It is officially winter around our neck of the woods, extreme cold temperatures and last night more snow and a bit of ice. Shoveling snow is not at the top of my bucket list, however last night and again this a.m. that little chore had to be done, as I type this post it looks like someone popped a feather pillow and light snow is once again coming down.

If you're a new visitor
to the blog and missed the previous posts of my small reno you can catch up HERE, HERE, AND HERE. My sheet rock guy spent a few days putting finishing touches on the walls and ceilings. This is a view into the kitchen.
The darker spot on the ceiling is where the sky light "used" to be, drywall is drying. I'm going to have a clean slate to look at, not a chopped up ceiling full of sky lights, a big shelf running across the room and a ceiling fan hanging.

Metal is put on the corners to protect the corners.
A thin mesh tape is then applied over the metal, more protection.
Looking into the kitchen you can see the seams and other areas where sheet rock mud will be applied and sanded down smooth.
My sheet rock guy has applied one coat of sheet rock mud around the new extended larger opening.

Last view of the ceiling before primer is applied. I have to admit I will not miss this view. The one I get to look at now is much more attractive.
I'm not crazy about the textured walls, something not in the budget to change. Sheet rock guy is applying texture to match those walls after the walls were open and expanded. I wish I had a better picture of the cone he used to spray the texture from.
Notice the base of the kitchen hutch? Yes folks it has set in my postage sized entry way for  a bit now. I'm happy to report last weekend all of the big pieces of furniture were moved back into place. This weekend the rest of the kitchen side ceiling will be painted as well as the laundry room ceiling.
I'm "slowly" moving the accessories back in.

It's been quite the process over this past year. I've learned a lot and experienced pure joy in seeing my little dream of having all the popcorn ceilings gone and the two door ways expanded into having more of an open concept living area. There is still a few things on the to do list. The yacht of an island will go down to counter height and shortened, new back splash and counter tops will be done. Fingers crossed that will happen this year. If I can give anyone any advice when it comes to remodeling large or small have lots of patience and enjoy the process no matter how fast or slow the process is. I hope you'll continue to follow along with more updates to my small reno.

It's coming along very nicely Lynne! Yes patience is key and also count on some extra money that will be needed. Though our contractor was pretty good about charging what he said he would there were always unexpected bumps in the road. By this spring it looks like you'll be rocking on the porch content knowing what you've gotten done on the house!

Thanks so much Liz. I'm down to the wire with all the hard stuff, beginning to put the rooms back together. I feel as though I've moved. lol I'm having a ball placing the furniture and accessories are going into different places than before, so I feel as though I've hit the jack pot and have all new. lol. I've been very fortunate having run into any major surprises. The Lord has truly blessed me during the whold process. fondly ~ Lynne ~

It's going to be beautiful, Lynne! I've had to come to a standstill on my things..but I'm pretty satisfied. I've done what you are doing a couple of times. It really helps to change and create. At least it does me. We are all looking forward to the finished glory! :)
