Taking Down Another Wall

It's been an eventful last few weeks and months around here. Not only was I busy cleaning up outside I was doing more work on the inside. Working on my home as been great therapy for me. Trying to adjust from a "we" to a "me" as taken its toll. I stay to myself with the dog and don't venture out. For the most part, the only outside contact I have are with my customers in the shop. Learning it's OK to laugh and have a good time as been a difficult journey for me. It's hard to believe on February 12th Mr. P has been gone 3 years. Working on projects has been my saving grace.

While sitting in the living area one evening I decided it was time for the half wall to come down. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to happen, I just knew I wanted it gone. It felt like an albatross. The half wall was great for furniture placement, great for placing all sorts of accessories in front of it. It was time to edit and rethink my decorating.
The oak shelf was great for displayinga few of my blue pieces, it was easy to decorate seasonally.

I got a hold of my contractor, he has this wonderful saying, "anything can be done. " I immediately got busy removing all of my personal things out of the way so we could tackle the job.
First to come off was the oak shelf on top, then the first layer of sheet rock.
Next we pulled the electrical wiring to place it on the East wall. The studs came out easily, the floor plate as well. The stud to the left of the screen connected to the big post was another story, we earned our Wheaties big time getting that silly piece of wood out of there without tearing up the wall. I forgot to take pictures of the wall studs coming out and the electrical being moved.
I called my sheetrock guy to come and access this area and the work needed to be done during the pocket door installation, you can view that project HERE, I wanted to be able to do both jobs at the same time to save him a trip and my money. He began putting up plastic so he could mud and spray the texture.

This area was repaired due to the wall coming out. You can see we moved the electrical outlet to the East wall, it was in the middle of the half wall. I needed a plugin for my lamp, this worked out perfectly.
The large beam styled post had to stay due to it's load bearing function.
You knew Miss Scooter would have to be in the mix of things. She had quite a thing for plastic for a while, loved to mess with it until it was almost in shreds and lie on it.
Let the spraying of the texture begin.
The saw horses were my safety barrier for a few days. I sure didn't want to fall down the 10' opening to the basement.
Please stay tuned for the reveal, the difference is absolutely incredible, at least to me. It has truly transformed my living area.  Happy Spring everyone!
Lynne
