Living Room Makeover Reveal

The day is finally here for the Living Room Makeover Reveal! I'll be honest in saying I'm a bit nervous for all of you to see the change. It's large to me, and still "not quite" finished.

If you recall the makeover began in January. You can see some of those changes beginning to take on life HERE and HERE and HERE.  I'm always hesitant to share changes around my home, critics aside it's a step inside my world. I'm truly a very private person, not a good thing to be when you own a blog and it's purpose is to share.
So... come along
and I'll share a makeover that truly kicked my living room into a more modern/traditional/cozy look. It's a bit picture heavy so please stick with me while I share the transformation.
After the heavy work of scraping and painting the ceiling was complete, putting the furniture back in was the fun part. My journey this past year has been all about changing things up in my life. I didn't want to put anything back the way it was.
Putting the sofa across the room allowed me to move the sofa table behind it creating a small entry way that proves to be more exciting.
The long half wall that leads down to the shop and my office has been a pain to decorate. The wall behind is still bare of pictures. I do have some art work in the garage I'm thinking of trying to put more of a finish to the wall.
Now don't get all excited on me, I know these walls are bare as well. There is a very good reason for that believe it or not. I'm praying in January or before of this year the wall to the left and the angled wall can come out, depends on if it's a weight bearing wall. I can envision the change, it will open up the whole area creating an open floor plan. For now, I've created a small sitting area.
The open area leads to the shop and my office, 13 quick steps on a daily basis and BOOM I'm at work. I truly love my commute. The secretary was a Valentines gift from Mr. P 37 years ago, and houses a stereo and 8 track player. Yes, you read that right an 8 track player. Music is a true love of mine and soothes my soul I occasionally pull out the vintage albums turn it up and rock around the house.
The ginger jars were purchased a few years back from Nell Hill's. The 24' height is perfect for the height of the secretary.

The tufted velvet covered ottoman was purchased from J.C.Penney's, it's served my home well for many years. For the time being I'm using the silver tray loaded with books and other fun decor.
I've had the cream colored sofa for many many years. The original fabric was full of cabbage roses with a deep dark background. I decided a few years back it was time to update and chose the cream colored fabric. There wasn't a thing wrong with the original fabric, just needed a change. The sofa sits beautifully, I'm glad I chose to recover instead of buying new. When choosing to recover at times the cost is close to the same as purchasing a new sofa, something to factor in if your wanting a new sofa. (Look closely and you'll see a hint of the dining room, yes major changes were made there as well).
The small black fruit piece as we've named it, has floated all over the house, starting it's life in my home in the dining room. From there it went to the kitchen. When I moved the living room around I needed something for the T.V. to sit on. I looked long and hard for new and decided this piece worked so much better than those I spotted on different web sites.
New textures and pillows were added everywhere. I have this obsession with throws, you have no idea how many of them I have. They are just so much fun to place here and there.
~BEFORE~
Yes folks this is the empty room, Blades off the fan, popcorn ceiling scrapped off, painting done. The wall color was originally Furry Ottertail a beautiful shade of brown. The new wall color is Restful Gray by SW. Check out those curtains... hanging way too high. They were purchased from Country Curtains.
I rehung the curtains to a better height just about an 1" off the floor.
~ BEFORE ~
~ AFTER ~
Thanks so much for stopping in to see the change made to the living room. With the popcorn ceiling gone, the ceiling fan gone, and the room completely rearranged, my home has taken on a whole new feeling. Not a huge change to some of you that have done major construction and moved into new homes. but it's a huge change to me and Miss Scooter. I'll be working on decorating the house for Fall this weekend, what are your plans for the weekend? Whatever they are I hope you have a safe fun-filled Labor Day Weekend.

I love that you are working at changing things up after such a life changing event as the loss of your husband. We all need to do that occasionally!. Your room looks lovely, as always. Sally

Lynne I am so impressed with all you've done. The rearranging of the furniture looks great! I like your secretary stereo! We are big music buffs although 8 track has long left us we still have a turntable that we bought in the 70's that is still active. I too like to crank up the music when doing things around the house! I like how you set the sofa and sofa table at the entry. I can well imagine that making changes like these gives you a sense of newness and fresh new outlook. Youre doing a good job of keeping your spirits up and keeping active. Kudos to you!

Your room is wonderful! I absolutely love the black piece of furniture that your TV sits on and the gallery behind it. The fabrics you chose for the pillows are perfect.

Lynne, that was brilliant to create an entryway with the sofa and sofa table. The room looks so pretty, and that beautiful stand is perfect for the t.v. The t.v. seems to just blend in. That secretary is a beautiful piece of furniture, and I love those big ginger jars. Well done!
