A Grandin Road Copy Cat Project

Do you ever get excited when you see something on a site and feel as though you just "have" to have it? I recently saw these screaming cute Santa boots over at Grandinroad's site. I immediately fell in love with them. I even went so far as to put them in the cart. Thankfully, my over taxed brain kicked in. The price was just way out of my budget and comfort zone.
Then like magic
after all it is the time of miracles I remembered I had some galosh planters in storage that I sold a couple of years ago in the shop. Why couldn't I take those and turn them into Santa Boots? Well....
After church on Sunday I went and retrieved them. I had for some strange reason already sprayed them white. Oh, please don't even ask, I'm sure I had come up with another brain storm and was going to use them for something else. It's all worked out for the best. I measured a couple of inches down from the top and masked it off, leaving the top white for the fur at the top of Santa's Boots.
It was a little damp out, so I took a chance on the wild side, held them and sprayed a shiny coat of black paint below the painter's tape.
Santa's boots had to have buckles, I found my gold pen and commenced painting the buckles. The pen must be getting on the old side, it was lacking the "spark". So... moving onto plan B.
I just happened to have a jar of gold leaf paint. Remember it is the season of miracles, trust and believe when I say it's a miracle I had the paint on hand. Not sure what project I bought that paint for. You see I haven't worked on crafty things in a very long time.  At this stage doesn't really matter does it? I'm truly thankful I had it on hand.
I added some greenery and a few candy canes. I started with the green and red candy canes in the center added two of the red and white. After adding a couple more of the red and white I liked that look better so went with all red and white candy canes.

Ta- Da !!! What do you think? After I took these pictures I added a few more candy canes by the pine cones. Pretty dog gone cute huh?  I'm so pleased with the way it turned out. All supplies were on hand except for the candy canes. I found those at Wal-Mart for a total cost of $5.00 for my copy cat boots instead of the on sale price of $127.00 from Grandinroad. Yah me!!
I'm not being compensated in any way from Grandinroad, just love their products.
Stayed tuned to see the back entry in full.

Fondly

What creativity in action! They always say, "Where there's a will there's a way", right? One would never know that you didn't spend $127.00 on it! It's beautiful, classy and elegant looking! Love the plaid bow on the dog as well.
(now I have to be on the look-out for boots!:) )

Holy Mother of Pearl, Lynne! GREAT job! You have inspired me!!! I don't have any boots that look like Santa boots, but I do have an umbrella stand that looks like riding boots. I'm going to copycat YOU and take a stab at creating something fun and inviting on the front porch with that! You did REALLY good for SO MUCH less money!!!

Yes...what WERE you thinking when you painted those boots all white??!?!???!?!? :-)
