~ Repurposing A Bird Bath ~

Wow, were things electric sounding around here last night, streak lightening, loads of thunder, heavy wind and rains, I pray each of you are doing OK. We weathered the storm fine, lost satellite a couple of times, no damage outside, dogs buried themselves inside and Mr. P
slept through all the noise. Me, I paced the floor, I do not like streak lightening, scares the you know what out of me. Thankfully I decided to mow late yesterday afternoon so I don't have that on the agenda for today's chores. This morning dawned cloudy and cool, then all of a sudden the sun broke out, they're calling for more weather, fingers crossed it misses us. Our thoughts and prayers are with those that were in the path of all the tornado's.

You know when you purchase something for one area and it takes on a new life over and over again and ends up somewhere else? I have a whole lot of that going on around here, the birdbath I'm speaking of is one of those projects. Originally purchased for the sun porch, I added a round glass top and used it for an end table. Once I discovered a few key pieces of furniture that fit the decor of the sun porch a little more to my current tastes, the bird bath was brought outside, let me tell you this baby is heavy, small but heavy.
Over the course of time it went from the original concrete color to black. There's something about black yard ornaments against a gray house, that seem so stately and timeless to me. It's set against the house and was filled with water for the birds for a time and then slowly it started leaking, what to do with a leaking birdbath? You move it out into the sun fill it with dirt and a few flowers, add some black mulch to hold the soil and wait for it to fill in. Lol
Can you say happy? I look out the breakfast window and see the chartreuse green of Creeping Jenny and immediately I smile. This makes me happy, it is going to be SO pretty once it's all filled in.
Mean while inside, Miss Scooter is not having any of the work outside.
While sitting on the back patio this morning having coffee I notice a bright lavender color out of the corner of my eye. Oh my goodness the Clematis is finally starting to bloom. It seems as though everything around here is a month late. I worried about it even blooming this year, you see last fall I got it into my head I would cut it down to the ground and see what happens. Thank goodness I didn't kill this beauty. It is gorgeous when filled with light and dark shades of lavender and purple blooms.

The rooster weather vane has been around for a few years now, it's another one of those items that lived inside the sun porch. I was hesitant about moving him outside. Even though the patina is aged and weathered and chippy and rusty, I don't want to totally ruin him. He's been fine under need the pergola at the back door, another one of those things that just makes me smile.

Mean while Miss Scooter has slept through the whole process from beginning to end, strange. Kind of like the weather, strange. Animals are great ones to tell us when things are going to happen, she must know another storm is moving in along with the hazy skies and winds.

I love your bird bath Lynne, it's going to be stunning when it all fills in.
I just filled a smaller one with impatience, hopefully it will do ok.
I trimmed the heck out of my clematis too and it seems to be growing.
Everything is late, although we seem to be catching up now.
Take Care for those storms,
Cindy

You have inspired me...truly!! My mom in law gave me a hideous plastic faded bird bath...now I am glad I didn't throw it away. Thanks!!! I love what you did with yours BTW!

My Bentley was so lazy yesterday. I called him when he was laying on the floor under the air vent. He opened his eyes, lifted his head about 1 inch, as if to say, this better be important, cuz I am busy. I told him to go back to his hard life...just checking to see he was breathing!
