~ A Soft Glow Makes A Big Impact ~

With another storm knocking at our back door everyone is preparing for another 8" to 12.5" of snow on top of the other 10+" we just had dumped on us. I'm as prepared as I can be, I don't have to get out unless an emergency comes up.
I was doing a bit of tweaking here and there over the weekend and it dawned on me I could move a few things around and make a better statement on a wall at the end of the living room. You know sometimes we look at things constantly and don't realize a few changes can make a big impact.
While
watching the Grammy's last night I noticed the soft glow the lamps cast across the room. I grabbed my camera and began to take a few shots, ( still getting use to the new camera).
A while back I was out shopping and ran across this gorgeous blue and white Ralph Lauren lamp, I knew it had to come home with me, I already knew where I would put it, it's the perfect touch for the secretary/stereo. Have I convinced you yet that I just had to have it? lol
The secretary/stereo was a Valentine's gift from Mr. P 36 years ago. I've listened to a lot of music over the years out of these speakers. It's one of the pieces I've taken apart and moved all around the house, from the kitchen, to the dining room to where it sits today.
The wall has a more finished look now. The metal column previously sat on the other side of the door with a smaller lamp sitting on top. I"m not sure why it took me so long to realize it would work better behind the chair with this classic beauty sitting on top. Guess better late than never huh?
A full view of the living area looking in from the dining room. As I look at these pictures the curtains HAVE to go. They been hanging there for eons, and are totally out of sink with the rest of the room. Do you do that? Like what you see until after you take a few pictures. UPDATE: The curtains came down right after I finished putting together this post, I'll do with out until I find the perfect thing to take their place.

During the holidays several small pieces were moved elsewhere for the tree to sit in this corner. After the tree came down I really liked where those pieces landed. I was in need of something small to fill the empty space between the chair and secretary/stereo, not having a lot of room for a table I tried the suitcases, they are a perfect fit. They still needed a bit of tweaking so shopped the house and decided the silver tray and blue vase was the perfect finishing touch.  Oh, how I love when a plan comes together.

With all the weather they are predicting, this is where you'll find me curled up on the end of the sofa enjoying a magazine and the glow the lamps cast across the room. I'm off to take Mr. P to the eye doctor in the city, hope we beat the storm moving in. If you have to be out and about please be careful.

You're so right about the lovely warm glow around the room...and the curtains...lol Love the warm beigey cream tones of your room...Little tip, if your like and budget challenged..painters drop cloths (beige) are rather inexpensive and can make great curtains if your so inclined. :-)

Christine

Lynne,
I agree that our eyes get use to our surroundings. Taking photos let's us see our view from the camera's angle...like a second set of eyes! I, too have been moving a few things around...lamps, accessories, editing. I think it has something to do with Barometic pressure?
Love that new RL lamp and the secretary/stereo is an elegant piece!!!
Do be careful on those roads, dear one!!!
Fondly,
Pat

Love all of your accessories and how you display them so beautifully. The lamps are perfect and the glow is wonderful. Yes, I don't ever really see a room until I take a picture of it and then I am totally amazed at how some things are just totally off. Thanks for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
