~ The Kitchen Desk ~

How's everyone doing on this cold blustery afternoon? At least we have clear skies and sunshine after yesterday's sleet, snow and blustery winds. Are you one of those people that look at something see a change that needs to be done and for the life of you just can't figure it out? I sure am, more times than I care to admit, but where's a will there is a way.
Our kitchen has a small desk I use on a daily basis to write the blog and keep up with all of you.
It's a quaint little area
just the perfect size for the lap top and a few accessories. There's always been a spot that has bugged the heck out of me. I just couldn't figure out what to do to make it sort of go away. As you look as this picture you're probably wondering so what's her problem? What's she talking about? Does she always have to find something wrong with each area she works on? Maybe.... as my g-daughter says, Grandma you're just too particular.
Do you see it now? The area that bugs the heck out of me? That has driven me over the top trying to come up with a solution to make it sort of disappear? You see all the plug ins just to the left of the one lamp? Those are for the cell phones and the land line phone. Those 3 little black plugs and wires just drive me insane. I thought maybe if I had my guy come in and drop the plug underneath the desk, make a grommet hole on top of the desk it would all go away. Then I would have to have the sheet rock re-worked the list goes on and on,  well my friends that is just not going to happen. There has to be a better way right?
While we're here notice the lamp to the left of the desk, it's dark base and more taupe colored shade? It's time for a change. With all the white and cream plates I'm adding and the possible painting coming my way the dark lamps are just too dark.
So, I thought I would try a new crisp white shade. It's just OK, doesn't scream you can leave me here I'm the perfect marriage to your beautiful platter and picture.
I do however love the great shape almost urn or trophy shape.
I scout the house and come up with this blue and cream mosaic lamp.
It has some delightful colors, adds a lighter feel to the vignette. It's still just not the "perfect" lamp. I'll leave it a couple of days, scout the house some more and try to wait patiently for the new lamp order due to arrive in the shop and see if the "perfect" lamp is in one of those many boxes.

~ AFTER ~
Can you see the slight change I made. I'm a genius, I need to go down in record books. OK. so I'm not a genius. It took looking at these pictures and realizing just moving all those nasty black plugs to the wall where the cream colored crock that holds pens and pencils that the view would be a lot more pleasant to the eye. They haven't disappeared completely, but it sure looks better don't you think? All those unsightly cords are housed behind the crock planter.

  4. Lynne,
    I love what you did!!!
I, too, have a "THING" with outlets and cords...nearly drives "Mr. Ed" over the edge at times!!! I've gotten to the point where I place large prints on easels in front of the kitchen counter outlets or put canisters and olive jars in front of them. Hide and survive, I call it!!!
I love, love, love the switch in lamps and am quite smitten with that lampshade. Saw a similar one at Tuesday mornings...but I'm not to that phase in the decor decisions for Studio One, just yet.
Cute post...makes me smile to know I'm not alone on those "Crazy Cords"!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat
