~Atchison Bound and A Few Tablescapes ~

A while back my BF asked if it would be possible to take a day trip with her and the girls to Atchison, she knows I gauge how Mr. P is doing before leaving for the day. We'd had a few good days in a row, I felt comfortable going off and leaving him for a few hours.

With all the flooding we've had in our area, instead of going the back way we had to take the flood route, a little longer, so worth the drive. The day was hot very hot, but gorgeous. This picture shows us crossing the bridge and how high the waters were.
The pictures were taken inside of a moving car window, I didn't get as many as I would like to have, I'm sure you get the picture. You could see floating logs along with a few other things. Our hearts go out to those who have lost their homes with all the flooding. We've arrived!
Yes folks, Nell Hill's store in Atchison, Kansas.

Aren't her awnings cute? Perfect color for Spring and Summer, cool and refreshing on a hot summer day.

Dish lovers watch out, this store is perfect for you!
Ironstone pottery in beautiful colors were everywhere.

If you wear an apron while you cook, you could find a variety of the cutest ones here.

Loads of beautiful napkin rings, I'm not sure why I didn't pick any up, hummmmm goes on the list of things to pick up next trip. lol

Numbered items for your choosing could be found left and right.

Lots of plates to decorate with, on your table or wall, they work both ways.

Be still my heart, darling teapot. I'm happy to report I resisted. :-))

More napkin rings. Goblets in every size and color, again I was a very good girl and didn't bring any home.

They've already started preparing for Halloween.

A clock I wish I had gotten. Maybe in September if I go back for my birthday

I wanted to share a picture of the beautiful ceiling and chandelier. Aren't they gorgeous? I'm really wanting to hang Chandeliers in the shop. I'm searching for some, once they are found, watch out for that post..lol I don't have the articulate ceilings, I think the feeling of ambiance will be there just the same.

Court yard outside Nell Hill's shop. Even with the obsessive heat of the day it evoke a sense of serenity and peace.

Time to leave for home...

Wished I'd gotten a better shot of the Penitentiary. Yes folks this is one of the "big houses."

Before we headed for home we stopped at the local Sonic for a cool refreshing drink. I looked out the window and saw the cutest building

That store is always PACKED with awesome dishes...I am always afraid I'm gonna knock something over with my purse! :) Love the little vignettes they always manage to create and inspire us with.

My friends and I headed to Leavenworth a couple of weeks ago....it has a darling downtown area with good antique shopping and a few specialty shops. I also took them by the PEN! :) Pretty scary place to be.

We also went down by the river to get a feel of how high the water was and how fast it was flowing....such force. I was driving, so I didn't get photos, but when we crossed the bridge (on 92) it was just a spectacular sight to see how huge the river has become. Such a sad time for the people who were flooded by the releasing of the water up north.

Glad you enjoyed your getaway and hope you get to return in Sept.!

Nell Hills and Sonic are my favorite places in Atchison; but haven't been there for a few years. Thanks for taking us on your road trip. Glad you were able to get away for a few hours. Sally

Thanks for the tour. Someone was telling me about the pretty Fall things a shop here has - told them I did not want to hear about it as I am still on my shopping diet. :-D

I just told J this afternoon I want to make a trip to Nell Hill's. It has been three years this Fall since we went to Briarcliff for the grand opening and it was three years ago last May we were in Atchison.

Maybe it was four, but I am thinking three...which was it? That shows right there I need to go, since it's has been so long I cannot even remember grand opening!

Mary Carol has a picture on her facebook that shows a dining room with little urns and mercury glass. I would love to have four of those urns....well......and a few other things.:-)

It is hard to imagine the river being up like that. Just amazing!

Hi Lynne, I recently drove through Kansas due to I29 being closed on my way to KC. I was hoping before I looked on the map that I might wander near Atchinson, but I didn't. :( I haven't been to that NH location in several years and it is by far my favorite. I'm also trying to resist temptations and only buy what I really, really must have! Loved seeing your pictures! Yes, soooo sad for all the folks who have losts their homes and farms. God bless them.

Lynne, can you imagine working in that store? I would be in big trouble. lol Thanks for taking us along. I saw so many wonderful things. So sorry about all the flooding in your area...breaks my heart to see that.

Exactly my type of afternoon getaway! Well, except for the flooding. That's so sad! And there is Texas without a drop to drink!! Really odd.
Loved the dishes of course. My problem is when I go to a store like that I WANT IT ALL...so come away with nothing. I think I get overwhelmed and cannot make a decision.
Libra, you know. :)

Mona

I really enjoyed this inside view of Nell Hill's, Lynn! I would ahve beentempted by many things..especially that cute bird design teapot for one!

I hope the flood waters have abated. Sadly it has been a spring and summer of horrible weather extremes everywhere.

Lynne that looks like a fun day! I see more than a few things I'd love to have. Starting with that large cloche on the wicker tray! And I sure see why you love that clock. The ceilings and chandelier are gorgeous! I think chandeliers add so much elegance to a space and I think you should put up lots of em! *winks* Oh and the espresso stand is fab!I can't wait to see what you'll find on your antiquing adventure. Oh my! Someone would have to tie me down in a store like that and take my credit cards, checkbook and cash! My mouth is watering from all the pretty stuff. I only have one question - why did you resist the beautiful teapot! That would have been in my hands so fast a person wouldn't know what happened! Thanks for sharing your fun with us!

I was always curious to see the inside of one of her stores. I love her blog but you really can't get a feeling of what is really inside. Your virtual tour was a real treat! She has tons of stuff and I would be in trouble for wanting to buy everything. Love all the napkin rings...maybe she is reading this and will put them online to sell! It's tough for you folks with the floods...it's devasting especially if one lost their home or business. The weather this summer has certainly been wild. Floods and hot hot heat.

I still can't believe that I live only about an hour from Nell Hills in Atchison but have NEVER visited! I went to the one in Parkville 3 years ago on my birthday but didn't buy anything. Can you believe that??!?!?! Everyone says the one in Parkville is very different from the original one in Atchison. I've got to get up there some day. Glad you had a good time! I didn't know there was a penitentiary in Atchison. Whoa! It looks different than what I would think one would look like. Weird. Well...all the goodies look so tempting in Nell Hills, so I will blame YOU when my husband complains about having to take me there! :-) Have a great weekend, Lynne!

Lynne (lynnesgiftsfromtheheart) said...

Alycia, It was a wonderful day, found lots of goodies and resisted even more. You head this direction let me know and I'll try my best to meet you.. then I can take the blame in person. lol. hugs ~lynne~
