~~~Outdoor Wednesday and A Few Cat Tails~~~
Can you believe it's Wednesday already? This week has certainly flown by. It's time once again for Outdoor Wednesday. Hosted by our Susan from A Southern Day Dreamer. Be sure to click here for a full list of participants.
A while back I posted the trumpet vines down by the barn. If you remember those were orange in color. I said then I would post the yellow ones for you. I didn't think they were ever going to bloom. I have these planted on the north end of the yard, so I can look out the kitchen window and see them daily.
You have to love the trumpet shape.
A little worse for wear. Such a beautiful color.
Directly behind the trumpet vine lies a small pond. I wanted to share the cattails that are taking over. I would have gotten a few more shots, however; I kept hearing things jump into the water. I could tell those were frogs, but I what I didn't know; if there were snakes lurking about. :-( I'm a bit afraid when it comes to snakes, so I shot these pictures and scurried back to the house.. lol
Thanks for swinging in to take a look and say hello. We always enjoy your company. Don't forget to swing by Susan's for a full list of those participating. You can once again click here for a list of those beautiful outdoor spaces. hugs ~lynne~
The yellow flowers are so pretty. I always love the look of yellow in the yard. It just seems to brighten up any spot. The cat tails are great. I don't like snakes either, so I am glad you didn't hang around. Hugs, Marty
Love trumpet vines; and those are a great color. We have spent the last 4 years trying to get our trumpet vine to bloom. Can you believe that? Finally, just this week, we have 4 trumpets about a month late. Don't know why it won't bloom in profusion. Take care, Sally
Lynne,
I was so excited to see that you were showing pictures of your trumpet vines today. You see, near the end of last year, I planted one and started training it up a trellis. It never bloomed last year and this year, although it it up the trellis about 4 ft., it still hasn't bloomed. I thought maybe it was a big weed that had overtaken the vine, but the leaves look exactly like yours. How long did it take your guy to bloom?? I really doubt this is going to happen this season. My trellis faces southeast. Any advice??
Love your cattails. They make pretty arrangements. You will have to find very loooooong clippers so you don't end up in the pond!! If you spray them with hairspray, they will not open and let loose all that yucky allergan stuff!!
Happy OW!!
xoxo
I love trumpet vines...I have a few of the bright orange ones.
When I was a little girl, we used to pull them off, stick them on all our fingers and play like we had long, orange fingernails..:)
The yellow trumpet vine is beautiful, Lynne. I don't think I've ever seen them. We had the orange, at the farm. It grew on and old shed with weathered wood. I have a photo somewhere on the other computer or in a book/album. I should look for it.
Great Outdoor Wednesday post!!
From childhood, I remember orange trumpet vine flowers, but I have never seen the yellow before! I also haven't thought of cat's tails for years- we used to pick them at a family friend's marshy area. They were dark brown and smooth, and I can recall being fascinated with them. Thanks for stimulating my memories.
Good morning my dear friend,
What a lovely, lovely outdoor post. The yello trumpets are amazing! What a spectacular sight to have out the kitchen window!
We don't have many trumpet vines growing in the north--the season is not long enough. Such a cheery greeting!
I appreciate your visits to my little Rose Cottage. Your chats just brighten my day as do your words of encouragement! I have the tea kettle on this morning for you if you have time to stop by. Your favorite rose tea cup is already on the table. Would you like some fresh triple berry jam with violet syrup on your biscuit?
You are in my thoughts this morning, and just want to let you know, Lynne, that I am here for you. What can I do to help in the ups and downs?
With the kindest thoughts of you,
Debbykay @ Rose Cottage Gardens and Farm
